Inktober 2014

This is my 1st time participating on Inktober. I've been posting some ink drawings daily on my Instagram account. I don't really have a theme to begin with... Most of them are fanart of some characters that made my childhood. My aim is just to have fun, learning to ink, at the same time trying to discipline myself to do 1 day 1 simple art. It was a tough journey I have to say, there are a lot of ups n downs during the process from the start till the end. But hey, despite of all the pieces that I'm not happy with and the lack of sleep in between, I actually manage to complete 30 arts within 31 days!

Robin Hood Reimagined - Timmy Timber

I wanted to create a companion pet for Robin, so I try to flash out some critters with a cheeky and happy personality. I didn't intend to make him to look like rocket racoon at all! But I guess I am subliminally influenced. I was looking at some references such as squirrel, koala, momonga, racoon, lemur and red panda. They are all equally cute.. And at the end I decided to go with a flying red racoon.

Robin saved Timmy from one of the Merry Man traps in the forest. Later on he follow Robin along on his adventure and join the Merry Man forces.

Robin Hood Reimagined - Little John

A continuation from the previous post. Trying to visualize how Little John would look like in my head. I want him to be bulky, humorous, warm and bear-like.Those are the few factors affecting my decision of the silhouette and warm colors in his scheme. He's a fatherly figure to me, second-in-command of the Merry Men, and a very good friend of Robin.

Robin Hood Reimagined - Robin Hood

This is a personal project I'm working on in my spare time. I used to do themed projects back in school, and they were my favorite projects to work on. This time round I'm attempting to reimagine my own version of Robin Hood.

I want to portray Robin as a charming, agile and cheerful character. He hides under his green hood and blends in the woods, helping the poor by robbing the rich nobles who pass through his territory.
I would love to develop the other characters revolving around him and explore the world he lives in.

Some sketches and thumbnails before I decide to finalise the design.

In the beginning I wanted to have a little bit of Japanese culture influence to the costume. Also deciding on the age and height for him. Did some color variations as well, but midway I realised that he was starting to lose his identity, and decided to make him green to blend well with his surroundings.

Check out my friend Freakyfir's works! He is also working on a similar project, involving Aladdin.

Turnip Girl

I've been very busy with freelance work for the past few months. It's really great to finally get to do my own personal project again! :D This piece is inspired by Indonesian village girl and Harvest Moon.

I've always wanted to do something related to my own country. It has a very beautiful scenery with very rich cultural aspect. I hope I can contribute something to promote their beauty in the future. ^^
And recently I saw the trailer for upcoming Harvest Moon in 3DS, brought me back to the time when I played the PS1 version long long time ago..Really love plucking the turnip out from the ground!

While doing this piece, I realized that I used to be very greedy with color.. From now on I would put more importance in value and balance them out.

The best part of drawing is the process and never about the result. I'm very happy get to learn new stuff every time I do my own project. ^^
